More On Backlinking

We all know that the most important search engine to rank in is Google. This is simply because it's the most popular, in fact it's now a household name.

Get it right with Google and you should find that you are also ranking in the other major search engines. So it's a good idea to ensure you are up to date with what works, what doesn't and of course what you should avoid doing at all costs.

Don't take this lightly as it can have a massive impact on the success of your website. Google can be your ally or your enemy, all depending on how you use backlinking. Google regularly change their rules and what's known as their 'algorithm'. This is simply the formula they use to rank websites in their search results, including yours.

No-one outside of Google really knows the specifics of their algorithm, but through Google's own updates, trial and error and years of experience, it's possible to work out what will help and what will hinder your website ranking.

If you think you can just throw up backlinks and you'll be ok, you need to understand that years ago that could work, but now you must stick to the rules or pay the price. For instance, if you set up backlinks from what Google considers 'bad neighbourhoods' or dodgy sites you'll be punished as your site will be flagged, pushed down the rankings and there's no way you'll achieve the rankings you deserve.

In some cases they will ban your site from Google and it can be extremely difficult to get back in.

Google does this to ensure only quality, relevant sites are listed in their search results.
Because they want their users to find what they are looking for, without including poor content or sites which try and trick Google into ranking them.

There's simply no point in fighting this as you will lose. Many webmasters use sneaky tactics and 1000's of quick backlinks from low quality sites, thinking that their site will escape any penalty. However, after the latest Google update called Penguin, many of these websites disappeared from the search results and the webmasters income disappeared with it. Imagine that. Having to start all over again. Do you really want to risk that?

So as you can see, it's not just about backlinking for the sake of it. You need to know what you are doing, even down to the 'anchor text' you use. This is the text in the link itself, for example 'Click Here To Buy The Best Weight Loss Products'

This was covered in the last Google update and 1000's of sites saw many of their backlinks no longer counted and therefore their position in the search results drop or disappear completely.
